Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The logistics company XPO Logistics announced the closure of its warehouse in Osimo and the dismissal of the 101 workers employed starting from September 2020.
The Osimo warehouse served Auchan supermarkets and will be closed due to the acquisition of the sales points by the supermarket chain Conad which will rely on its own logistics structure.
Trade unions organised several initiatives, among which a strike, to ask for the use of social shock absorbers for the dismissed employees. Also local institution intervened in the dispute in support of these instruments, the local labourmarket, already proven by the COVID-19 crisis, will probably not offer much re-employment opportunities.
