Description
The management of the Borgwarner plant in Tulle announced the closure of the site, which employs 368 people, by March 2022. The site manufactures electromechanical and electro-hydraulic components as well as gearboxes for the automotive industry. According to the management, the site would no longer be profitable, particularly in the context of the ecological transition of the automotive sector.
The mayor of Tulle, the main town next to the site, believes that the American group has long planned this closure, in particular by installing a single-production plant on the site, which would have recorded losses in 2019. A view shared by the trade unions.
The factory also regularly employs many temporary workers. Two years ago, it employed 520 people and 200 temporary workers on certain days. A plan to safeguard employment will be discussed with the social partners from 1 July. A buyer will also be sought. Redundancies will begin on 1 January 2021.
