Safran Nacelles, the France-based global aircraft engine manufacturer has announced that it will cut 250 jobs at its production site in Burnley, north of England. The redundancy consultations with the affected staff and trade unions are already underway.
In his statement the company's managing director said that the redundancies were necessary to protect the company from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The restructuring is part of a wider restructuring plan across Safran group: the group announced 3,000 job cuts in Mexico in May 2020. It is cuttting 250 temporary staff positions in France and announced job cuts in Europe at a European works council meeting on 2 June. Job cuts amounting to 94 positions were announced on 23 April across the British Safran Seats plants.
Safran Nacelles has factories in Germany, Morocco and Russia, as well as the UK.
