Adelie Foods, the British food manufacturer specialising in producing pre-packaged sandwiches has entered administration and subsequently ceased trading, making 2,169 workers redundant with immediate effect. A small group of 22 employees have been retained to assist with closing the business.
The Administrators stated that the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown measures had a very strong adverse effect on the company.
A representative of the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union said the union was supporting its members who had lost their jobs.
Adelie Foods produced sandwiches and other ‘food to go’ such as wraps, soups and salad bowls, including the very popular Urban Eat brand for cafes and supermarkets. It has production sites in Greater London, England and Wales.
