Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
D'Ieteren, a Belgian car distributor and importer, has announced significant restructuring within the company. According to the company management the restructuring is intended to help the company to cope with the impact of the current COVID-19 related health crisis (including its long term economical consequences) as well as the changing buying behaviour of customers.
The restructuring is part of a strategy by the company that started approximately a year ago. However, the company management wants to speed up the process. More concretely parts of the company will be terminated such as the contact centre in Kortenberg. In addition a new owner will be sought for D'Ieteren sport that imports Yamaha products. In total approximately 211 employees will be affected by the measures.
