European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Entier, the Scotland-based catering firm that specialises in providing services offshore on North Sea oil rigs, has made about 100 of its employees redundant with immediate effect.
The company stated that its operations were severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and by the consequential reduction in demand for offshore catering services. According to Entier, 'every option' has been considered to avoid layoffs. Nonetheless, the above-mentioned workers have been dismissed, and not put under the UK government’s jobs retention scheme, since the company don’t think activity levels will pick up enough to provide work to them when the scheme will end.
The affected workers have turned to the media, criticising Entier's decision and arguing that they should have been placed on the UK government’s COVID-19 job retention scheme, deserving a 'fight chance'. The trade union Unite is supporting the workers' instances, asking that a job retention scheme would be extended to all of them.
Entier is the Scotland’s largest privately-owned catering business, with a group turnover of £50 million in 2017.
