Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Polish mining equipment manufacturer Famur announced that it will close its production facility in Rybnik, Poland. As a result, 204 people will be made redundant throughout a collective dismissal programme. The source also reports that the company will also cut 84 positions at its headquarters in Katowice. The restructuring is associated with COVID-19 pandemic; according to the company, the pandemic has resulted in a drop in demand for its products.
Famur was founded in 1897. The company provides longwall systems, road heading systems, underground and surface transport systems, open-pit mining machines as well as equipment for mass transport and material handling.
