Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 8 April 2020, the German shipbuilding company Lürssen Werft will be closing its ship repair plant in Elsfleth by the end of the year which will result in the loss of 130 jobs. According to Lürssen Werft, the plant in Elsfleth, which was acquired from the insolvent Elsflether Werft in 2019, is no longer sustainable, making a closure inevitable. Lürssen will offer all affected employees jobs at other sites (possibly Berne, Lemwerder or Wilhelmshaven).
The yard has been operational for more than 100 years.
