Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Polish producer of automotive components Zakłady Wyrobów Metalowych 'SHL' announced that it plans to cut its workforce by about 20% at the unit in Kielce within the next few weeks. It implies that 90 out of 430 will be made redundant under a collective dismissal programme. The conditions of the programme will be negotiated with the local trade unions. The restructuring is motivated by the difficulties of the global automotive market - the company has been affected by the fall in demand.
Zakłady Wyrobów Metalowych 'SHL' has been operating since 1919; the company is one of the oldest Polish factories of metal components for the automotive industry and agriculture machinery.
