Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Polish furniture group Black Red White (BRW) plans to implement a collective dismissal programme within its two subsidiaries, Black Red White and Meble Black Red White. The programmes in both companies will affect 1,900 positions (1,500 in Black Red White and 400 in Meble Black Red White) in all units across the country by the end of 2020. The company undertakes this internal restructuring as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic and fall in orders. BRW also had to temporarily close all its stores across Poland due to pandemic regulations.
BRW was founded in 1991; currently, it is the largest furniture manufacturer in Poland having 18 production facilities and 75 stores across Poland. The group is also present on 55 markets worldwide.
