Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Individual company A. Zakaro firma, which is managing the chain of shoe shops "Batu kalnas“ in Lithuania, dismissed around 156 employees in Klaipeda in the period from 15 March 2020 to 1 April 2020. The number of employees in the company decreased from 269 to 113. The main cause of the dismissals is the quarantine regime in Lithuania. To control the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), the Lithuanian Government declared quarantine on the entire territory of the Republic of Lithuania as of 16 March 2020. Since the shops are currently closed, the company has recently announced that it will soon open an online store.
According to the Employment Service, since the beginning of the quarantine regime, the number of employees in Lithuania has already decreased by more than 8 thousand.
