Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 7 February 2020, the German automotive manufacturer BMW announced that it will increase the workforce at its plant in Dingolfing from 600 to 1,400 employees by the end of 2020. This increase in employees has become necessary as BMW intends to fast track the expansion of its e-drive components centre at Dingolfing. For these positions, the company will search for specialists within and outside the company.
In the medium-term, BMW plans to increase the plant’s size from 8,000 square metres to 80,000 square metres. This expansion will make Dingolfing the leading BMW's manufacturing centre for e-mobility.
